Robbie Partington log jam
What’s the deal with this photo! How did you end up skating a log on a patch of gravel?
Well we where out on this trip to Wave Rock with Quayde, Phill, Pekka, Rielly, Alex and Luke. I think it was one of the last days there and one some of the locals had told us about some more weird shaped rocks just out of town that we drove out to investigate.
As we parked up in this gravel carpark, someone saw the log and joked that it should get log jammed. We all chimed in as you do telling one another to do it. Just for a laugh, thinking that it wasn’t possible.
There wasn’t much else to do here, haha. So I tried out rolling on the ground with the cruiser board and it worked better than expected. I was surprised. So I though, hey why not see if it’s actually possible, and I gave it a shot.
As I was rolling up to my second shot I heard Alex remark “I don’t even think that’s possible!” To no one in particular. This got me really fired up. For him to just cut it off and say it can’t be done made me so mad. It pushed me to ride through all the dust and lumpy bark to really try and land it.
The run up was definitely the hardest to deal with as it was loosely compacted sand and gravel so every time I tried to push my feet would just slip. Some times the wheels would lock up and slide sideways too. The second challenge was trying to land back into the soil. That part was mostly sand, just plain old sand with some clay underneath. Like what you’d find on the side of the road. I had to stomp it a few times before I managed to actually roll out over the sand patch for a few metres before I just sunk in and stopped.
So that’s pretty much how i ended up skating a log sticking out of a patch of dirt.
